Silica Gel Desiccant

Desitag® Silica Gel is a conventional desiccant, available in porous, granular, and amorphous forms, produced by a chemical reaction between sulfuric acid and sodium silicate. The internal structure of Silica Gel is composed of a vast network of interconnected microscopic pores which attract and hold water, alcohol, hydrocarbons, and other chemicals through physical adsorption and capillary condensation. The translucent white silica gel is considered a food- grade product and is used to protect various products, including auto/spare parts, electrical appliances, electronics, food packaging, furniture, footwear, pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals.

Silica gel desiccant offers a powerful combination of high moisture absorption capacity, safety, and versatility, making it an ideal choice for protecting a wide range of products from moisture- related issues. Its reusability and colour-indicating options add to its practicality and cost- effectiveness, ensuring that your products remain in optimal condition.

Key Features
  • High Absorption Capacity:

Silica gel can absorb up to 33% of its weight in moisture, effectively reducing humidity and preventing condensation.

  • Non-Toxic and Safe:

It is safe to use with food, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and other sensitive products, as it is non-toxic and chemically inert.

  • Color-Indicating Options:

Available in color-indicating forms (such as blue or orange), which change color when saturated with moisture, providing a visual indication of when the desiccant needs to be replaced or regenerated.

  • Versatile Form:

Silica gel is available in various forms, including beads, granules, and packets, to suit different applications.

Applications

1. Food Packaging:
Silica gel helps keep food products dry, preventing mold growth, clumping, and spoilage, thereby extending shelf life.

2. Electronics:
Protects electronic components and devices from moisture-induced corrosion and damage, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

3. Pharmaceuticals:
Maintains the stability and efficacy of moisture-sensitive medications and medical supplies.

4. Industrial:
Used in a variety of industrial applications to control humidity and prevent corrosion and damage to machinery and equipment.

5. Leather Goods:
Helps prevent mold and mildew growth in leather products, such as shoes, bags, and jackets, by absorbing excess moisture.

6. Archives and Collections:
Protects valuable documents, artworks, and collectibles from moisture damage, preserving their condition over time.

7. Shipping and Storage:
Ensures that goods remain dry and free from moisture damage during transit and storage.
